Guild Wars 2: Clockwork Chaos Patch

Dear Chlorine,
Just so you know, I am writing this when you are 1.5 years old (555 days to be exact). By the time you’re able to read this, you’ll have probably known that I like playing video games and I like playing them with friends, brothers, your mother, and most probably even you. I like sharing gaming experiences, and I actually enjoy playing games while someone is watching (ask Mommy how many times I forced her to watch me play). A lot of times these experiences get posted to Facebook, or Twitter, or Google+. By the time you’re reading this, though, Social Networking might have become obsolete (who knows?). And besides, they’re too cluttered with other posts such as check-ins, vacation photos, and many more.
So I decided to compile these gaming experiences into one blog, so that one day I get to share them with you, and so that as I play these games right now while you’re still a baby, I can play them as if I’m already showing them to a grown-up you.
In fact, I’ve taken the liberty to give you a temporary gaming nickname – Chlorine. Feel free to change it when you’re old enough.
This will be a short one. Today marks the release of the latest Guild Wars 2 patch, which includes the new Living Story entitled Clockwork Chaos.

As you can see from this screenshot, the use of the word “chaos” seems appropriate.

By the time you read this I’d probably have forgotten about this patch, so I’ll try to explain what’s going on. In this patch, a new villain named Scarlet Briar has taken over the Crown Pavilion (from the previous patch) and is threatening to take over Tyria by releasing hordes of twisted steam monsters.

Apparently, she has gotten help from previous villains, the Aetherblade pirates and the Molten alliance, as well.

This patch marks the beginning of map-wide meta events, and I hope they pick this up as it not only gives the players an exciting and rewarding activity, but also promotes coordination among strangers.
When the location of the zone Scarlet is attacking is announced, players rush to that area to kill the invaders. After stopping three waves, Scarlet appears and has to be defeated. In the end, the players are handsomely rewarded, especially if they complete the task in time.

Sadly, if you get disconnected during the event, chances are you’d be thrown to the overflow server when you get back, thus denying you the chance to complete the event. I’ve tried it four times so far, only finishing it once.

Which reminds me, once you’re done reading this, remind me how much I hate PLDT’s service at the time of this writing. Then again, it could just be because of typhoon Maring.

So that’s it, aside from the new map-wide events, new achievements, and the usual personal story-type instances, as well as the usual tweaks here and there, there’s nothing much to share. Have fun!
