First of all, it’s now possible to navigate through the game with the help of buttons and menus. Of course, I didn’t spend too much time in making them pretty. I don’t have an artistic blood after all. But they are functional.
And the upgrades I mentioned that were coded but inaccessible? They’re all yours (talking to my kind friends who are testing this app).
And lastly, the game now saves your stats, points, and preferences (whaat?). See more of these after the jump.
One of the basic “features” that was missing in the game was a way to exit it. >_< Of course, it also didn’t have any kind of menu, no way to pause the game, and no customizations of any kind.
Most of these end today.
Voila, some sort of main menu. The parts of these (background/title, buttons) are easily replaceable, so bear with me for now while I keep the design minimalist.
Tapping the Exit Game button, of course, exits the game. Cool!
Tapping the Stats button shows some of your lifetime statistics, that is, the aggregate statistics of all games played on your device. This includes the High Score, some game statistics such as field goal percentages and points scored, as well as upgradable attributes such as extra time at the beginning of the game.
In addition, it displays the player’s avatar on the left hand side. I did mention in my previous post that this will be customizable. Right now it isn’t, but when it becomes customizable, this is where you’ll make the changes.
Tapping that Back button brings us back to the Main Menu, and from there, we can also access the Settings screen:
As you know, this game is very simple in nature. As such, the only actual settings you can change is the “venue”, which is basically just the background image/s shown and animated during the game.
I determined four for now: the default gray background, a Gym setting, an Arena (like in actual pro basketball games) setting (not yet available at this time), and a fourth option that has a twist. I couldn’t think of a name for it, so as of the moment it is labeled ominously as “Seizure”. Tapping this might as well bring up a photosensitivity warning (in the future), but more on that later.
Tapping the Reset Game button resets the game, clearing all points earned as well as all statistics. There is a warning dialogue first, so you won’t tap this accidentally.
The credits button isn’t available at the moment.
Back at the main menu, tapping the Upgrades button brings a host of upgrades. I already mentioned the upgrades themselves in an older post and most of the listed attributes are still accurate. The Upgrades page gives you the ability to spend your earned points on improving these attributes.
Finally, tapping the Play button from the Main Menu brings us to the One-Time bonuses menu, which is just a checklist of bonuses you want to activate, spending your earned points. Clicking Play from that page brings us to the game proper.
The game itself hasn’t changed much since my last post. Some visual changes were made, for instance the ball now spins when shot, and the borders in the “artwork” are now thicker.
Oh, and of course, there is now a background/venue setting which can be changed in the settings menu mentioned earlier. Here’s the Gym setting:
I also mentioned a fourth setting, which is accurately labeled as HARD. It’s currently called “Seizure” setting as a warning because it might very well cause seizures in photosensitive people. Because of this, I consider this setting temporary: I can either change its name and add a warning (and maybe add bonus points for playing it) or I can remove/change it completely. We’ll see in the next couple of days.
But for the curious among you, here is what it looks like. A screenshot isn’t enough, so I will end with a video.
Again, this involves flashing lights and can induce seizures. NOT FOR PHOTOSENSITIVE PEOPLE.
Photosensitivity Warning: Watch at your own risk.
