In all honesty, I thought of the same feature, but I thought with my current skill level, it was impossible. I said sure it was a feature I’d love to have someday, but right now it would be too much to handle.
And then I had a eureka moment. I sat down and implemented it and I’m happy to report the avatar system works. It’s not customizable yet, of course, but one of the tougher challenges in implementing it has been solved.
Customizability, after all, WILL be a future feature. See the video of the current build after the jump.
As promised, here is the current build. I did mention in my last post that I coded some future upgrades, so for this demo, I activated the one called Sorcery. Sorcery gives a chance for the ball to split into two smaller balls when it hits an object or gets near the basket.
The original plan was for it to split all the time, but it proved to be too repetitive and hard to take advantage of.
Also seen in the video is the new teammate feature. Every after a made shot, there is a chance (in this build, 2.5% chance) for a teammate to spawn. This teammate will help put back some of your misses. By the way, if you shoot a money ball perfectly, the teammate is spawned 100% of the time.
Lastly, an attribute called “Acrobatic Shot” allows some balls to pass through defenders. It starts at 0% and is upgradable up to 20%. In the current build, it is set to 10% and is denoted by a ghostly green ball.
Without further ado, here’s the current build, which is somewhat halfway between 0.0.1 and 0.0.2. Sorry for the background noise.
Current Hoop Flick Build
Next, I will start working on at least a temporary Upgrades and One-Time Bonuses menu, as well as the ability to “save” the game, your currency, and improve your character.
I hope to have all of these by this time next week, assuming my gaming time won’t eat too much into my development time.
